Woodpigeon and Vermin Shooting

The Kent Wildfowlers offers its Full members the opportunity to shoot pigeon and vermin all year round on sites in Kent and Essex.

Our ever increasing portfolio of land holdings and shooting right enables members to enjoy shooting and to keep their eye in throughout the long summer months.

We currently have shooting available over arable farmland at Rettendon in Essex, and Hollingbourne, Wouldham, Halling, Whitstable, Detling, Hawkenbury and the Isle of Sheppey in Kent.

Woodpigeons are a devastating agricultural pest, and with your help, KWCA can protect farmers' valuable crops.

Pigeon shooting requires skilled fieldcraft and good reconnaissance, finding their flightlines is the key to success. Woodpigeons roost and digest their food in woods; they feed in fields and have distinct flight paths between the two. Setting up your hide and decoys under a flightline will bring success. Pigeons will always land into wind; where possible, shoot with your back to the wind so that they fly towards your hide.

Winged vermin such as crows and magpies decimate nesting birds, stealing their eggs and killing chicks..

Shooting crows and magpies requires greater cunning; by comparison they are far more intelligent than pigeons and seem to have much better eye sight. During the winter magpies roost communally in woods and evening ventures can bring great success. During the day, remaining well hidden and motionless is the secret. In the spring, both species become highly territorial and develop regular habits as they patrol their patch. Spending time studying these patterns will help to outwit them.

Rabbits continue to be the farmer's worst enemy causing millions of pounds worth of crop damage every year.

Rabbits are a problem on most arable farms, and great sport, as well as a good meal, can be had during the spring and summer months. We can offer both shotgun and air rifle rabbit shooting.
