Safety

The Kent Wildfowling & Conservation Association has a good safety record but it must be stressed that wildfowling is not without its elements of danger. The tides, terrain and weather conditions make this pastime far more demanding than any other branch of shooting and the wildfowler must be on guard at all times. The hazards met when taking to icy waters in small craft or facing a strenuous trudge through glutinous ooze, risking exposure and fatigue should not be taken lightly.

Those new to the sport must be cautious and rely heavily on the experience of the older and wiser members of the Association. Our Permit Issuing Officers and Wardens are always available and ready to give advice on matters of safety.

Training and education have resulted in an exemplary safety record for the sport. The BASC provides a Proficiency Award Scheme designed to promote high standards of competence and safety for the Wildfowler and other shooters alike.
